Thanks Amazon, I looked all over El Paso for this bit and found it online. They provided fast shipping. I used this bit to make keyholes for a pot rack that I made and worked great! You might have to stop in between drilling to clean out excess saw dust that accumulates inside the keyhole, if not it will start burning and slow down the Dremel. Overall, I am pleased, a handy little drill bit great for small projects.

As with anything I've purchased from dremel - I am extremely PLEASED. I purchased this bit for the sole purpose of creating "key hole" slots in the back of a number of shadow box type projects I've completed and still have yet to begin. The bit does it's job well.
It's designed for routing, inlaying and mortising in wood and other soft materials. As quoted directly from the Dremel website:
User Tips Title
For best results, insert the accessory bit all the way into the tool and then back it out slightly before tightening down. This provides plenty of shank for the collet or chuck to hold onto.
Secure objects to a stable surface while working.
If chattering occurs, increase speed.
Keep a light touch, letting the speed of the tool do the work. This helps your accessory bits last longer
Dremel recommends speed settings of 35,000 rpms for both hard and soft woods
With that said since the bit does not have any type of self-tapping capability I would suggest drilling a pilot hole (5/16") to allow you to drop the bit into and then by using a guide to create your straight and pre-determined length mortise (slot) allow the dremel to feed itself through the material. The slot you'll end up with will roughly be around 3/16" - 1/4". This is import to know since the screws you'll be using to hang your project on can't have heads larger than 5/16" nor shafts larger than 1/4".
My results were spot on using this type of planning and set-up and I see much more use coming from this handy little bit
Thx Dremel:-)

I started using a Dremel Rotary ToolDremel 300-1/40 300 Series 1.15 Amp 5,000 to 35,000 RPM Variable Speed Rotary Tool with 40 Accessorieswhen I received one for Christmas. I always wondered how the little keyhole shaped openings on the back of something which needed hanging on the wall were made (you place the large round hole over the head of a screw in the wall and slide the hanging object down so the head of the screw is secured in the slot of the keyhole). The opening is made with a Keyhole Router Bit which is pictured above and I have had fun with it.
